Halloween is Over... for me that is a good thing! I have never gotten into the Halloween "thrill" for all my life. "Why?"... not real sure, but I just don't like it. Ghouls, Goblins, Skeleton's, dead people, and begging candy from people I don't know. And if you don't "treat" me I will "trick" you... no thanks.
Now we are pressing on to Thanksgiving and Christmas. And that too is sort of ruined for me with all the excess commercialism and "stuff" that we seem to believe we "need" to celebrate or enjoy these days. By the time they get here I am sort of burned out, aren't you?
I can remember back to when we didn't think of Christmas or see Christmas stuff till we had done with Thanksgiving and talk about excitement!!
We seemed to fully enjoy one holiday before the next one.
I guess in all things the "Majority of One" rule does not apply....But....
If it were in my power, we would still do things that way with Simple decorations, less 'stuff.' Personally I like time with people, more than stuff... all year long.. lol
Is it possible, to really enjoy Thanksgiving and reflect on ALL the things we are, OR should be thankful for, if we rush through it with our minds on the next holiday before this one is done??
Food for thought, and personally, I don't think so.
Christmas comes and most of our thoughts and actions and decorations are completely of this world. Come on you know they are...
Santa... Reindeer... the Gimmeeee's, my list of what I want, (and I expect it the kids say) the going in debt to 'give' something to everyone we know. Owe no man nothing... hmmmm
My how much away from the simple yet profound thing that Christmas really is... AND tell me where it is in the Bible that we were told to "celebrate" like this??
Can we remember and be thankful for the love of God in sending His Son to be born in this world, to tell us how to be restored in our relationship with God, how life is best lived, and then to pay our penalty for sin. hmmm but where in the Scripture does it even suggest we celebrate his birth so outrageously?
Or even if we are to have "Christmas?"
Now then we will come to the "holiday" that calls to remembrance His death on the cross for us. His burial and resurrection and "finished work" on that cross... for us. His body broken for us. His blood shed for us! For ALL the people in this world. The free gift of eternal life purchased for us if we would believe and turn from our wicked way. I would think that for the Christian, this day should be the most blessed, and EXCITING DAY of all... hmmm
There is a slight chance, that we might be doing the "Remembrance" that he asked for on this day if we think, about his broken body and blood spilt for us.
YET Even that is tarnished with NO special celebration. No thought of the broken & bloody Jesus on the cross for us!, no Victorious Resurrection excitement, Not particularly in church or at home. What wonderful songs that tell the story, remembering our Lord, and what that baby grew up to accomplish! Obedient unto death and our Victorious Savior!! Without whom there is no salvation, no real joy, no eternal life.
The Chickens, Eggs, Bunnies, candy & baskets
etc. etc. have even over shadowed this day..
We can rationalize "what it represents" but really does it?
Have you ever wondered what God 'thinks' and 'feels' as he looks down on us from above?? I do.
Yet, even I, have fallen into the worlds trap somewhat, and not stood up for what I really believe is right and true and God honoring.
For Shame...
Yes, much to munch on here... the "Meandering Mind."
